Discover the winter

Grandhotel Giessbach

Welcome to the Grandhotel Giessbach. A hotel steeped in history, a place of peace and vitality. A place to breathe freely, to enjoy the gifts of life, to re-energize. Architecture, nature, respite for the senses and spirit; indulgence for body and soul. A gift of nature and of time that has withstood the years, a place of joy and peace that transcends time.

Waterfalls

The Giessbach Falls: roaring, chattering, and different every day. Illuminated by night, mystical by day, they are the heart of our surroundings and the source of their power. A walk beneath it, feeling and absorbing its power, is a nature experience beyond compare.

Giessbach Bahn

Giessbachbahn is one of the oldest funiculars in the world. It is almost in its original condition, with switch rails that are still based on the 1891 design. The railway is carefully and lovingly serviced. Ever since its complete overhaul in the spring of 2019, one of the two carriages can once again be admired in its original livery. From April to October, the funicular takes guests (maximum 40 people per trip) from the landing stage to the Grand Hotel, on a ride full of nostalgic charm. Direct connections with the BLS boats are guaranteed.

The Giessbach Foundation

The non-profit Giessbach Foundation was established by Franz Weber in 1983. Its mission was to save from demolition this Belle Époque hotel—a historical jewel— today its purpose is to preserve this wonderful piece of local heritage, set above Lake Brienz, for the people of Switzerland and all its visitors from abroad. To be able to continue safeguarding this heritage in the future, the Foundation relies on subsidies. If you would like to learn more about the Giessbach Foundation, please click on the link below.
